utilities and wind power AWEA Utility Working Group Description / Purpose The AWEA Utility Working Group is a group made up of electric utilities who are organized to exchange information on wind power for use at their utilities. The purpose of the group is to provide a forum for the free exchange of information, best practices, lessons learned, operating experience, and challenges associated with the development of wind power by and for electric utilities in the U.S. Activities The group exchanges information to accomplish the objectives listed above in a number of ways, including:
Upcoming Meetings The AWEA Utility Working Group typically meets two times each year in face-to-face meetings. The first meeting occurs at the annual WINDPOWER conference and expo (http://www.windpowerexpo.org). The second meeting typically occurs at the AWEA Fall Symposium (http://www.awea.org/events/symposium08). Some meetings are open to AWEA utility members only, while other meetings are open to non-member utilities as well. But in all cases, the meetings are not open to entities who are not electric utilities – the meetings are restricted to only load serving entities. This means, for instance, that unregulated subsidiaries of utility holding companies who act as wind developers are not eligible to attend. Only electric utilities that serve retail customers are eligible to attend. For general questions on wind power in general, please send an e-mail to windmail@awea.org.
