WISCONSIN WIND ENERGY SUPPLY CHAIN SEMINAR EXPECTS
MORE THAN 450 COMPANY LEADERS TO CONVENE IN APPLETON

85% Represent Wisconsin-Based Manufacturers,
Service Providers Exploring Expansion Into Wind Industry

APPLETON, WI – The American Wind Energy Association, in cooperation with 11 different state organizations, is hosting a Wisconsin Wind Energy Supply Chain Seminar to help local businesses identify new business opportunities in the wind energy industry.

“The possibilities are wide open for Wisconsin companies exploring new business opportunities in wind,” said Jeff Anthony, a Milwaukee resident and AWEA’s manager for utility programs.  “There are significant challenges in the wind energy industry today as well, but with various proposals for a national renewable energy standard weaving their way through Congress, the wind industry is destined to lead the new, clean energy economy that President Obama is talking about.”

The Wisconsin Wind Energy Supply Chain Seminar will focus on wind turbine manufacturing challenges and opportunities in the state of Wisconsin.

Governor Jim Doyle will provide the keynote address on Tuesday afternoon and will hold a media availability immediately following his speech.   Governor Doyle is focused on creating opportunity for Wisconsin and is building upon current efforts to create jobs, make America energy independent, and address the global climate crisis.  The event also will feature four major wind turbine manufacturers:  GE Energy, Vestas, Siemens, and Gamesa, and will highlight Wisconsin companies already working in the U.S. wind energy supply chain who will share their experience with this new and dynamic marketplace.

Over 8,000 components are used in the construction of utility-scale wind turbines, offering opportunities for a wide range of manufacturers and service providers in Wisconsin. The existing manufacturing and service industries, as well as academic and other institutions in Wisconsin make it an ideal state to benefit from the growth of the wind energy industry.

David Lisle, CEO of Wisconsin-based Wausaukee Composites and a seminar speaker, said he is proud that his company is part of this expanding U.S. industry.  “The purpose of our attendance at the AWEA Supply Chain event is to network with industry leadership, identify potential new business opportunities, and to share our own wind power supply chain experiences with others.”  Wausaukee Composites manufactures wind turbine housings (nacelles), spinning hubs and nosecones.

AWEA is presenting this workshop with the support of We Energies, The New North, RENEW Wisconsin, State of Wisconsin - Office of Energy Independence, Wisconsin Department of Commerce, Wisconsin Public Service, Madison Gas & Electric, Alliant Energy, Dairyland Power, Forward Wisconsin, Xcel Energy, and WPPI Energy.

A separate, full-day national Supply Chain Workshop will be held in conjunction with the WINDPOWER ® 2009 Conference & Exhibition in Chicago on May 4, 2009.  For more information, visit www.windpowerexpo.org.
