WIND INDUSTRY BLOWS IN TO MANHATTAN

  • Wind Power Finance & Investment Workshop presents new financing options for wind projects, features first-ever Financial Analyst Day
  • Mayor Bloomberg proclaims New York City Wind Energy Day as AWEA rings NASDAQ Closing Bell
  • Wind power video premieres on Times Square MTV billboard

New York City – As the Honorable Michael Bloomberg offers an official proclamation declaring Wednesday, October 14, to be “New York City Wind Energy Day,” the wind energy industry descends on New York City’s Times Square for the American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) two-day Wind Power Finance & Investment Workshop. Featured activities will include AWEA ringing the NASDAQ Closing Bell, as well as the premiere of a wind power video in Times Square.

“From Mayor Bloomberg’s proclamation to our presence at the NASDAQ in Times Square, New York City will know that wind energy has arrived,” said AWEA CEO Denise Bode. “ Clean energy technologies like wind have a proven track record in creating high-quality jobs for American workers. The wind industry in the U.S. currently employs 85,000 people, and can continue to be a bright light in the economy as recovery begins and energy and climate legislation remains pending.”

The economic recession and stimulus bill are changing the way wind projects are financed. AWEA’s Wind Power Finance & Investment Workshop, which will be held at the New York Marriott Marquis, will cover the latest financing twists and turns and show how wind energy incentives will create new ways of financing projects and allow the industry to continue to grow. On October 13, AWEA will host Financial Analyst Day, a half-day program in which financial analysts and workshop attendees can learn directly from executives of some of the major wind players about project development, project ownership, and the wind turbine supply chain. October 14 will feature an all-day workshop, offering a first look at financing projects under newly instated federal programs. Specific topics will include the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA), U.S. Treasury grant program, U.S. Department of Energy loan guarantee program, and new ways of financing wind projects. Featured speakers will include Denise Bode, Chief Executive Officer, American Wind Energy Association; J. Cameron Drecoll, Chief Executive Officer, Broadwind Energy ; Susan Nickey, Chief Financial Officer, Acciona Wind Energy USA, LLC; and John M. Eber, Managing Director-Energy Investments, JPMorgan Capital Corporation.

In honor of the Wind Power Finance & Investment Workshop, AWEA will ring the Closing Bell at NASDAQ MarketSite on Wednesday, October 14, at 4:00 pm. Additionally, AWEA will feature a video about the power of wind energy on the MTV 44½ billboard at Broadway between 44 th and 45 th Streets. The full video can be viewed at www.awea.org.
