WISCONSIN GOVERNOR JIM DOYLE SCHEDULED TO ADDRESS
WISCONSIN WIND ENERGY SUPPLY CHAIN SEMINAR
Attention to Seminar Signals Strong Interest in Wind Power
as Driver for Economic Growth, Job Creation in State
WHAT: Governor Jim Doyle scheduled as Keynote Speaker at the “Wisconsin Wind Energy Supply Chain Seminar”
WHEN: March 31, 2009, 1:30 pm CT/2:30 pm ET
WHERE: Appleton, Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Wind Energy Supply Chain Seminar will focus on wind turbine manufacturing challenges and opportunities in the state of Wisconsin. Over 8,000 components are used in the construction of utility-scale wind turbines, offering opportunities for a wide range of manufacturers and service providers in Wisconsin. The existing manufacturing and service industries, as well as academic and other institutions in Wisconsin makes it an ideal state to benefit from the growth of the wind energy industry.
Governor Doyle is focused on creating opportunity for Wisconsin and is building upon current efforts to create jobs, make America energy independent, and address the global climate crisis. The event also will feature four major wind turbine manufacturers: GE Energy, Vestas, Siemens, and Gamesa, and will highlight Wisconsin companies already working in the U.S. wind energy supply chain who will share their experience with this new and dynamic marketplace.
Attendees will learn about the new Economic Stimulus bill and how one provision in that legislation is intended to enable traditional manufacturers to transition to producing products for extracting energy from the wind and other renewable resources.
The seminar will also provide:
- networking opportunities for companies interested in this market (Click here to see the attendee roster);
- Wisconsin wind power outlook;
- national wind energy industry overview;
- status report on supply chain shortages and bottlenecks;
- the anatomy of a wind turbine: major components and manufacturing requirements; and
- major component sourcing & value chain services.
Additionally, a separate, full-day national Supply Chain Workshop will be held in conjunction with the WINDPOWER 2009 conference & exhibition in Chicago on May 4, 2009. Topics Include:
- anatomy of a turbine
- national wind industry overview
- major component sourcing & value chain services
- entering the wind industry: funding, contracts, and re-tooling
- case studies
