WIND ENERGY ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES MEDIA CAMPAIGN
AS CRUCIAL VOTE ON RENEWABLE ENERGY LOOMS
WINDPOWER 2008 Conference & Exhibition Will Focus on Dynamic U.S. Wind Power Market, Key Challenges During Three-Day Conference and Expo
Houston, TX– Today, the WINDPOWER 2008 Conference & Exhibition (www.windpowerexpo.org) will bring together more than 12,000 wind industry leaders, policymakers and energy professionals at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, featuring over 770 exhibitors, including wind power plant developers, turbine manufacturers, and the full range of supply chain manufacturers. The WINDPOWER 2008 Conference & Exhibition is the world’s largest annual wind energy industry event, with three days of conference sessions, an interactive tradeshow of wind energy products and services, and numerous networking opportunities among leaders in all facets of the industry.
Gathering in Texas—the nation’s No. 1 market for wind power—attendees will learn about industry successes as well as actions needed to expand wind’s contribution to 20% of U.S. electricity supply by 2030—a level that a recent report by the U.S. Department of Energy says is technically and economically feasible (www.20percentwind.org). Texas has installed more wind energy and is planning more transmission infrastructure than any other state in the U.S. and has become a model of how to make wind energy work on a larger scale.
The WINDPOWER 2008 Conference & Exhibitionfeatures:
- A show floor over a quarter of a mile long;
- Over 770 exhibitors who will fill the exhibition hall with a full array of products and service demonstrations;
- More than 10,000 attendees and wind energy professionals, up from 7,000 last year;
- A conference program featuring a total of 300 speakers and moderators, 150 poster presentations, and over 50 sessions addressing topics organized into six daily “tracks”: Finance, Wind Power Growth, Resource Assessment, Policy, Key Issues, and Wind at the Epicenter;
- Speaker highlights include: The Honorable Rick Perry, Governor of Texas; The Honorable Kathleen Sebelius, Governor of Kansas; The Honorable Bill White, Mayor of Houston; Alexander Karsner, Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of Energy; General Wesley Clark, (ret.) Emergya Wind Technologies, B.V., Director and Former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, Europe;
- Two 70-meter-long turbine blades displayed outdoors on Discovery Green, located right across the street from the George R. Brown Convention Center;
- A Careers in Wind Seminar and Job Fair offering the opportunity to hear from top executives at leading wind energy companies about how to start a career in the wind industry and where wind energy’s leading companies will be recruiting;
- A concert by Lyle Lovett at Discovery Green, the newly constructed park across from the George R. Brown Convention Center.
