AMERICAN WIND ENERGY ASSOCIATION STATEMENT
ON ENERGY LEGISLATION NOW MOVING THROUGH CONGRESS
The following statement was released today by Gregory Wetstone, Senior Director of Governmental and Public Affairs for the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA):
The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) congratulates Congressional leaders on the energy legislation now moving through Congress. This vital measure includes the wind energy industry’s two central priorities—the Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) and an extension of the Production Tax Credit (PTC). These overwhelmingly popular provisions will unleash the power of renewable energy to generate new manufacturing and construction jobs, lower Americans’ home energy bills, strengthen our energy security, and help protect the planet’s climate. We will be working closely with our more than 1200 member companies to ensure passage of this critical legislation.
A recent poll of potential 2008 voters conducted by Zogby International and commissioned by AWEA documents growing support for renewable energy and growing concern about energy independence as top domestic priorities for potential 2008 voters. For example, 64 percent of those polled disagree with the proposition that the federal government is doing enough to promote clean renewable energy. The full survey results are available at http://www.awea.org/newsroom/pdf/Zogby_oct_natl_poll.pdf.
AWEA, formed in 1974, is the national trade association of the U.S. wind
energy industry.
The association's membership includes turbine manufacturers, wind project
developers,
utilities, academicians, and interested individuals. More information on
wind energy
is available at the AWEA web site: www.awea.org.
